#CryptoDeMayo: The Manifesto
First tweet on Jan 22, 2025, launched April 26, 2025
🌎 I. May is LATAM Month
Latin America has the talent, the energy, the communities, the builders. What it needed was a moment to converge, a fixed point on the global crypto calendar that belongs to us.
#CryptoDeMayo is that moment. Every May, builders across LATAM come together under one banner: the hashtag #CryptoDeMayo and its shared home, CryptoDeMayo.org. Each from their own city, each community fully independent, each doing what they do best, amplifying each other.
⚡ II. The Power of Coordination
When many communities organize independently but align on the same month, something extraordinary happens: the whole becomes far greater than the sum of its parts.
Global sponsors notice a region. International attendees plan a trip, not just a single event. Speakers carve out the entire month. Builders make connections that cross borders. May becomes the reason to be in Latin America.
🤝 III. IRL is Irreplaceable
The whiteboard conversation. The hallway handshake after a talk. The dinner where the collaboration begins. Digital connects us every day. May is when we meet in person.
Every #CryptoDeMayo event is a real, in-person gathering, because those moments cannot be reproduced online. No virtual events. Show up.
🔓 IV. Open and Transparent
Anyone can submit an IRL crypto event happening in May. Conferences, hackathons, workshops, meetups, side events, any format, any city in LATAM.
Events are reviewed by a distributed group of community curators on a first-come, first-served basis. 2 curator approvals list the event. Listing is never guaranteed, and submitting implies accepting these principles. Events that violate the principles can be removed by 3 curators with a public reason stated.
📜 V. Our Principles
- IRL and in-person only, dates must fall in May.
- Open and inclusive: no event is too small, too local, or too new.
- Crypto-positive values: no misleading, extractive, or predatory projects.
- Transparent: all curator decisions include a public stated reason.
- Non-competitive: this is coordination, not ranking. We amplify each other.
🛡️ VI. The Curators
CryptoDeMayo is stewarded by community curators who have actively built in the LATAM ecosystem across prior editions of ETH Cinco de Mayo and beyond.
The curator network includes: ETH Cinco de Mayo, Medellin Blockchain Community, Frutero Club, FlashTalkCotorreo, Bandaweb3, CriptoUNAM, Mobil3, Arbitrum Ambassadors, and others. The network grows over time, adding voices from across the region.
Curators are self-responsible. Each event needs 2 approvals. 3 curators can remove an approved event with a clear public explanation.
📅 VII. The Story: How It Started
The real proof of concept came in the weeks before ETH Cinco de Mayo 2025 (May 1–4, Mexico City). Instead of using their own domain (ETHCDM.com) to publish the conference agenda, the team made a deliberate choice: they directed attendees, speakers, and the broader community to CryptoDeMayo.org, a space where any event, from a small local meetup to a major conference, could be listed and gain visibility among all attendees of the main event, appearing in a shared Notion one after another, with equal visibility. Several independent side-events were even added to the main agenda.
That decision sent a clear message: CryptoDeMayo.org is not the ETH Cinco de Mayo website. It is the shared home of the entire movement. During that event, in conversations, direct invitations, and X Spaces, the team communicated openly that the vision for 2026 was to establish CryptoDeMayo.org as the permanent home of #CryptoDeMayo, the movement described in this manifesto.
Those two moments, the tweet and the campaign, are the origin of what you are reading now.
